If a life is at risk, call 911

Call 911 for immediate physical danger or a life-threatening medical emergency. A suspected overdose or serious injury needs emergency medical help, not an online resource search.

For emotional distress, call, text or chat with 988

You can contact 988 for suicidal thoughts, mental-health distress or concern about someone else. You do not have to be certain the situation is a crisis to reach out.

In New Hampshire, ask about local crisis support

NH Rapid Response offers crisis support at 833-710-6477. A crisis professional can discuss next steps and whether a mobile crisis response may be appropriate. An on-site response is not guaranteed.

When you are supporting someone else

  • Listen without arguing or judging, and ask what support feels possible right now.
  • If it is safe, offer to sit with them while they contact a crisis counselor.
  • Do not put yourself in danger. Call 911 when immediate safety is at risk.
  • Ask the counselor what to do next instead of relying on this guide to assess risk.

After the immediate crisis

A next step may involve ongoing care, peer support, recovery services, housing or food. Listings are starting points, not confirmed appointments or openings.
