Treatment courts across America
Patrick's Path™ lists New Hampshire in detail below because that's where we operate first. Treatment courts are nationwide: as of December 31, 2024, 4,276 treatment courts were operating across the United States, counted by the National Treatment Court Resource Center from state coordinators. Models include adult drug courts, mental-health courts, veterans treatment courts, family treatment courts, impaired-driving courts, juvenile drug courts and reentry courts.
- National Treatment Court Resource Center — Treatment Court Maps — an official, filterable map of treatment courts by court type, state and county.
- All Rise (National Association of Treatment Court Professionals) — how the treatment-court model works and state-level associations.
- U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs — Treatment Courts — federal overview of the more than 4,000 treatment courts nationwide.
Patrick's Path™ does not maintain a nationwide court directory. To find a treatment court outside New Hampshire, use the official map above, ask your defense attorney, or contact your state's treatment court coordinator. Eligibility rules are set by each county and state, not by this website.
How treatment courts work
New Hampshire's drug courts and mental health courts are problem-solving courts. They combine community-based treatment with court supervision, regular check-ins, and a system of rewards and sanctions. The goal is to address the substance-use or mental-health conditions behind the charges instead of jail or prison. Participation is voluntary.
- Drug court: supervised substance-use treatment. To enter a county's adult drug court, a person generally must live in — and be charged in — that county.
- Mental health court: a voluntary, judge-supervised treatment alternative for people with diagnosed mental-health conditions who are willing to engage in treatment. Teams include judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, mental-health professionals and probation officers.
- Veterans behavioral health track: a similar supervised track for veterans in several counties.
- Eligibility is decided by the court team — not by this website. Patrick's Path™ cannot refer you, decide eligibility, or contact a court for you.
